I've become a collector

I recently decided to start a collection. I didn't want to just collect some random thing, but something that represented me and would be fun but not absorb my life. Something I could buy if I was on vacation, something that had many varieties but that was unique even when it was plain. Something I that when someone says "Oh I love those" I could say "Me too! and I have 26 of them in my basement." I wanted a collection that was VERY cheap so that even if I only had $3 I could buy one that I saw and liked. I wanted a collection that was very visible and could decorate my office and my batcave/basement. And I wanted a collection I could have with me on my person and show off everyday. So I decided to collect three things:
My cheap collection that has a new "collectible" each month, and is fun to read.

Comic Books
Not a ton of them, just a couple series that involve many characters of the recent movies that have rekindled my taste for superheroish stuff.

Movie Posters
I love movies and this is a great way to showcase my favorites and decorate my space all the same time. As soon as you walk into my office you can connect with my taste in movies and start conversation by throwing me a quote or something.

Chuck Taylor All-Stars

I love Chucks. When I first got a pair MANY years ago, I loved how they looked, the style, the unique way they could be designed, the retro feeling, everything about them. This is something that I can wear and show people a part of my collection every day. Since they are more expensive, it'll take longer to collect them, but that's OK.

So if you're wondering what to get me for Christmas, or my birthday, or just because you love me...get me something that will add to one of my collections. Oh and by the way...I also collect money!

LOL cheap movies are great

I just saw this video tape while I was exiting our (annoyingly undercunstruction) Hy-Vee. I unsuspectingly went in to buy lunch for my beautiful wife while she is sick in bed and on the way out saw this. I know that as a kid I watched silly things like the "Beetle Borgs" and the "Tattooed Teenage Alien Fighters from Beverly Hills" but this one is pretty dumb. I would have bought it had I thought it through but since I don't even own a VCR figured it would be silly. Now I've remembered that here at the church we have VCR's and I could watch it here. I hope it's still there when I go back later, but something tells me that in the two huge bins of useless DVD's of Spanish grade B movies and video tapes of TV shows that never made it one "Butt-Ugly Martians" tape will remain. Cross your fingers for me.

fonts on the web might get better...maybe

One of the most annoying problems with blogs and websites in general is that if I create a page and use a font that you don't have on your computer, you can't see it. Which with the high amount of fonts I use (because I love to design with different fonts) and all the different OS's out there leaves everyone sharing maybe 4 or 5 fonts...lame-o! Well I just read an article from webmonkey.com saying that the new versions of firefox and safari will have a way to save the font I'm using on my server and then your computer will pull it off and read it correctly, to allow you to see the font I chose. That may seem silly and useless to you, but pumps me up.
My favorite part of graphic design is matching a design with the write type treatment. I'm not saying I'm great at it, I just love it. Going through all 3,000 fonts I have to find the one that fits with what I put together is fun and completes it. So for me this is exciting news, for you, I just wasted two minutes of your life...sorry

Last night's Steamwheelers Game

I had a great time at the Steamwheelers Game with my friends! I didn't realize before hand that we would all get random seats though...so I think there were some people there that never found us, but that's just a little bit of a backfire no big deal.
Now I am off to work I am going to be planning out the entire year so we can bring the excellence to a whole new level. I'm pumped!
Reed had a great idea at the game for a cool new shirt idea, and we are going to do it! I'll let you all know the details as they solidify.

How-to be understood at a Comic con

Just read this article at wired.com. Quickly becoming my favorite website to get cool articles from and to have a good laugh from the geeky bloggers they employ. This article is looking at how to say things in different nerdy languages. My favorite is:

"I have to go to the bathroom. Will you help me to remove my Stormtrooper armor?"

Back to work

Well, I had a whole day of vacation time...INSANE I know. But now I have a full day to welcome me back into the real world. I'm leaving in about 10 minutes for a Youth Ministers Refuel thing which should be great, so that'll help me ease back in I hope.
Just read this article from wired.com about Batman's gizmos and other assorted themes. This guy writes like I would if I put more effort and creativity into it. So you should read the whole article. Here's a quick quote to get you started:

Rebreather-This is usually depicted as a small device that Batman can hold in his mouth like a Binky. A Bat-Binky. However, rather than providing Batman with comfort while teething or tripping on ecstasy, the rebreather turns Batman's superheroic exhalations back into life-giving oxygen, allowing him to survive unpleasant gases or even breathe underwater. Carbon dioxide into oxygen? Batman could solve global warming on his own, but he won't. Global warming didn't kill his parents.
Grade: C+

new line excitement

I am going to go watch the UFC fights at Matt's house tonight, but while the boring fights are going on we are going to be planning out the next 3 months of our engedi business plan. Mapping out when things are going to happen, what we want to be in our upcoming lines. And what we need to add so that you all get more bang for your buck.
We are already working on a secret project that I just KNOW you will all go CRAZY for (especially those of you in high school)!
So if you have been wondering about what engedi will do next...you might just get some hints in the next few days. I'm so pumped!

Summer Games University is a success

It doesn't matter how you measure success, SGU accomplished all of its goals. Telling people about Jesus, encouraging and building up kids, and raising up new leaders from this generation! I couldn't be happier with what has happened, and just have to thank everyone that did their part in developing the camp into what it was this past week.
Matt and I are always pumped with the support from our engedi patrons at SGU and this year was no exception. We sold out of almost everything we had, except some large and xlarge sizes. So we are going to work extra hard this week to come out with a whole new line that will blow your minds...in a good way. So keep your eyes focused on the news page, and bookmark my blog so that you can check back often for all the cool stuff that is coming.
As a special treat to our SGU friends, I'm going to try and get Dave to let me upload some of his amazing videos so that you can laugh again, and show your friends all the cool stuff that went on at camp this year. Thanks again for all your support!

Max Payne movie looks...good?

I have heard of this movie coming up, but haven't been even a little excited to hear more about it. Even after I heard Mark Wahlberg was Max. Until I was silly enough to watch the trailer. Now I'm about as pumped as I was after I saw the Wanted trailer...maybe more. The only thing wrong is that it was a pretty good game, so how good can the movie really be?
Watch this fast before it gets taken down.

new iphone for everyone

If you are quick to get inline and have $200. The new iphone 3g is being shipped Sunday the 11th. I am seriously thinking of what I can sell to get the money for one...I'm thinking with the advances in modern science I should sell my kidney while someone still wants it.
I'd be cool with just keeping my blackberry if it wasn't $40 a month for internet compared to the iphone's $20 a month. The handy new iphone pays for itself when you look at that convenient data, unless you are my wife Liz. She doesn't see how that can make sense, and refuses to let me get one. So I'm talking to my friend Ivey to see if he gets a new one and I can buy his old iphone 1.0 from him. Still Liz will be the deal breaker there too. Cross your fingers friends, hopefully in the next few weeks I'll post a pic of me with my new tan, and a sweet new iphone.
If you are interested in what has changed on the new iphone besides the price and the speed of the internet check out wired.com's article highlighting a couple of simple changes.

Not the best week for blogging

Well, the mission trip went splendidly and we all had fun! So now this week we are trying to finish up all the fun preparation for SGU which is NEXT WEEK. That means more work than normal, and a ton more stress. But, it'll all be worth it when camp runs smoothly. So keep checking, I'll try to update at least every day. Blogging is a nice break to a stress packed schedule.
