the mission trip is here

Our Christ United Methodist Church Mission Trip is starting today at 4pm. It is exciting, but a little stressful. My goals are to have a great time, to not try to judge success, and to keep my twitter updated with the cool stuff we are doing. So if you have never had a reason to follow it before, and you maybe want to see what a mission trip does during the day, CHECK IT OUT!

what happened 34 years ago today?

Good question. Since I wasn't alive I had to look it up. Wired.com had a good blog about how the first ever UPC was used. It was in Troy, Ohio and it was on a pack of gum (at least it wasn't on a pet rock or something). If you don't check their site you should. They had a couple other neat articles some of you might find interesting. They went over the Rolling Stones interview of Obama and his music preferences which was a little surprising for me. They also had a great gallery of the "Best Robot Love Stories" in honor of the new, sure to be amazing, "wall-e" movie.

summer time is busy

I know. Now that the 200th blog contest is over, I've been slacking. Good thing blogging isn't my job or I'd be under review. Any-who I've got a lot of stress on my plate, and even more around the corner, so I've prioritized accordingly. It's not that my blogging isn't important to me, it is. I love that both of you guys read this weekly. But I've just had really important things to focus on. But I'll make an extra effort to at least vent, or share a video that has helped cheer me up along the way.
Here is an interesting issue I've been dealing with...maybe this is normal. The high-5...people switching to the fist pound mid exchange. That's not cool, and really makes things awkward. Are there rules I should be following here? Please advice.

post #199 LAST CHANCE and Starbucks

If you are finally ready for my 200th post sweepstakes to be over with...join the club. But this every one's last chance to sign up for their chance to win FREE engedi stuff. Just go here and follow the instructions to enter and tomorrow I will post my 200th blog which will include the names of our winners!
If you aren't excited, check your pulse, because my heart is pounding! Although it could be from the French press gallon of coffee I just had from my favorite Starbucks location. I'm currently reading a book about Starbucks and why it is so fantastic. It's called The Starbucks Experience.
It has explained (very well) why I love Starbucks and helped me to appreciate "my" Starbucks even more. I have noticed that not only are the employees here at 5 points in Davenport doing a fantastic job of creating a welcoming environment, but that all Starbucks are supposed to be this amazing according to their company's game plan.
So here's a shout out to Nica and Justin my two favorite baristas, and the rest of "my" Starbucks crew.

Since I don't post enough pictures of him, or talk about him enough (says my family), I am going to give a whole post about why I love my son Jaxon for his birthday.
10. He uses the "th" sound to say his "s" sounds
9. When he gets really rambunctious and excited he bites, because he loves you
8. If you say his name with too much attitude he snaps back with an incredibly clear "Wwwwhat!?"
7. He likes to mimic me when I do obnoxious things (like roll my eyes, or make fart noises)
6. Every morning he wakes me up by climbing on my head and whispering in my ear "daddy"
5. When we are in a group of people he demands attention and everyone loves to give it to him
4. He uses his eyebrows to make people back away from him (see picture to the left)
3. He has been able to keep a beat since he learned to clap, and now has upgraded to playing beats on a full sized drum set
2. Has a very limited attention span for most books, but has an unlimited attention span for Family Guy, and also shows he is allowed to watch (that comes from Liz)
1. The number one reason I love my son, is because he can remind me in one look why he's worth it, and how I would do anything to make him happy. He has shown me why my parents were the way they were for me, and why family is so fantastic to be surrounded by as much as possible.
There are hundreds more reasons, but those are the ones I could think of right off the top of my head. I love you Jaxon!

post #195 Moog makes a revolutionary guitar

If you didn't know...I understand because I just read about it on wired.com. But this guitar is pretty insane. I'm not even a guitar player and it makes me excited, so I can just imagine how pumped it'll make someone who actually plays guitar.
ALSO, don't forget only 5 posts until the winners of the contest are revealed! If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out the 200th post blog and enter it! SOON!

post #194 Finally high heels for babies

It was only a matter of time before we cared more for our children's appearance than their long term ability to have a normal life. "So what if it potentially causes my daughter to walk with a limp the rest of her life, look how cute she looks!" The site Heelarious has launched their new line of baby high heels and we couldn't be more excited. I especially love that the shape is so cartoon-y, that makes it just that much more laughable. Heelarious you will be among my other favorites (inventions that never were, and pregnancy book) as the most amazing pregnancy/baby products.

If any of my bosses are reading this, don't worry I'm not playing, just giving the option to those who don't have as great a job as me and are bored in their cubicles. beat my highscore 2743!
Play Games at freeworldgroup
Also I saw this and had to share it. You know those Nigerian spam emails you get that are promising millions of dollars if only you give all the bank information you've ever had? Well, here is a guy that messed with them back...and it's pretty hilarious stuff. He said he wished he could believe them, but it just seemed too good to be true and he would need some confirmation that this isn't just some computer program but a real person. So with the help of MS Paint, he made a crude drawing and asked the guy to send a picture of himself posed like the drawings. And just a few days later, he got his pictures. Well, now I have something fun to do with my free time.

Doug
PS: only 7 more posts before I announce the winners of the blog contest!
PPS: I'd love for my friends to start using twitter, that way I can follow people I know and care about. Think about it.

I have been sick today. I always hate being sick on my day off, but it seems to happen all the time. So instead of wrestling around at Ju-Jitsu class, but instead I'm watching "the Rock" and giggling about how poor Nicholas Cage's acting is. Here are a couple of my favorite quotes so far:
"FBI Freeze sucker!"
"Well, I'm one of those fortunate people who like my job, sir. Got my first chemistry set when I was seven, blew my eyebrows off, we never saw the cat again, been into it ever since."
"How, in the name of Zeus's butthole, did you get out of your cell?"

Oh Cage, why do you take movies that have the worst dialogue writers of all time? Maybe I'll do a post on the horrible Con-Air quotes sometime.
"Put the bunny back in the box."
